Terry Ryan, born January 14, 1977, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, is a former professional ice hockey player, actor, and author. Drafted 8th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 1995, Ryan played eight NHL games before injuries cut his career short. He excelled in minor leagues, winning awards like Rookie of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year. In 2024, he made a surprise return, playing for the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers after a 20-year hiatus. A versatile athlete, Ryan also represented Canada in ball hockey, winning multiple medals, and played senior hockey and baseball. Beyond sports, he’s appeared in TV shows like Letterkenny and Shoresy, released a memoir, Tales of a First Round Nothing, and pursued stand-up comedy and politics.
